Job Description:

 

Hyundai America Technical Center, Inc. (HATCI) is currently looking for a Chassis Controls Test and Development Engineer at our Proving Ground in California City, California.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Develop chassis control systems (ESC/TCS/ABS/AWD/…) through subjective/objective testing and calibration for North American Market Hyundai, Kia & Genesis prototype through production vehicles in collaboration with system suppliers
  • Lead test and validation of low and high mu chassis control systems
  • Conduct FMVSS126 ESC certification test and NCAP rollover test
  • Conduct low mu ESC/TCS/ABS/AWD/… calibration and verification with system suppliers at winter test facilities in North America, Sweden, New Zealand, China, Japan or Korea
  • Develop and execute test plans, coordinate test vehicles, and manage supplier activities
  • Conduct objective test & analysis following National Highway Traffic Safety Association (NHTSA) test standards and major media test procedures
  • Lead vehicle integration of chassis control systems (ESC, AWD, e-LSD, …) through collaborate with Ride & Handling and Brake engineers
  • Conduct benchmarking of competitive vehicles and support customer feedback research to understand customer requirements
  • Develop in-house testing methodology as and specify/procure test instrumentation as needed
  • Support all chassis research & development activities at the Proving Ground
  • Provide technical support to Hyundai and Kia North American manufacturing plants
  • Create and present clear & concise technical reports
  • Work in a small team environment as well as independently
  • Travel up to 40%, domestically and internationally to support product development and testing

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • Master of Science degree in Engineering
  • 3 or more years of relevant engineering experience in the automotive industry
  • 3 or more years of in vehicle Chassis Control System testing, tuning, & development experience
  • Good understanding of Vehicle Dynamics, Stability Control systems, and Braking systems
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink, INCA, ...
  • Competent in the use of Microsoft Office (Excel & PowerPoint)
  • Good project management and technical writing skills
  • Flexibility in handling multiple projects and changing priorities
  • Ability to work in a culturally diverse team environment and in all weather conditions
  • Documented professional high performance vehicle driving experience (willing to learn techniques for operating a vehicle at the physical limits)
  • Valid Driver’s License and satisfactory driving record

Experience and Skills:

 Bachelors of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering, or a related field of study
